With much of its housing large terraced Victorian buildings divided into flats, Shepherds bush has become one of the most multi-cultural in the entire capital: long-standing Irish and West Indian communities have been joined by Australians and new Zealanders – with pub and bar provision catering to their requirements – plus Lebanese, Iranians, Syrians and people from Pakistan and Bangladesh, and recently Somalis too. The street market profits from such consumers, and is one of the area’s focal points. Another is the vast Westfield Shopping Centre, with a third naturally being the home of the district’s football club, Queens Park Rangers. On three tube lines Shepherds Bush is an easy spot to travel from wherever in London you work.
