Kidderminster is one of the few towns in Britain still carrying out the trade that made its name – in this case carpet making. That business started in the 18th century but was rooted in the Flemish weavers who located here in the 13th century. Redevelopment of late – Weavers’ Wharf in particular – has improved the town’s retail facilities, and for a small settlement Kiddie has more nightclubs than might be expected, as well as some good traditional pubs in the centre. The centre also benefits from having watersides along the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal and the River Stour, and the ancient Church of St Mary and All Saints.
