Recent developments in High Wycombe have begun to make up for the errors of 1960s urban planning – the influx of young blood with Buckinghamshire New University – origin of the Mighty Boosh - being sited there has energised the atmosphere for the better; and the shopping facilities have improved radically, with power to add, with recent regeneration. Given it is fewer than 30 miles from London, with trains to Marylebone taking half an hour, and with the M4 close at hand, it is not surprising that the town houses many commuters. The town’s schools include John Hampden Grammar which nurtured Terry Pratchett’s genius, and the exceptional Royal Grammar School.
