Hexham has received accolades from Country Life and Britain in Bloom among others recently, recognizing the charm and character of this lovely old Northumbrian market town, with cattle and other animals traded there along with domestic foodstuffs. As well as ancient buildings like the Abbey there is some lovely Georgian architecture. The Tyne at the north of the settlement and the Dales all around it add to the quality of life. With some equally pleasant villages around it, and Newcastle a short train ride away, this is a self-contained town but with major work opportunities in commuting distance. And as befits the home of Hannah Glasse there is plenty of good local food available.
